1. Visit the Myriad Botanical Gardens
The Myriad Botanical Gardens is one of the most popular attractions in Oklahoma City. Located on the southwest corner of Reno and Robinson, this 17 acre park offers an escape to nature in the heart of downtown.
The gardens offer a variety of activities and attractions for families and couples to enjoy. There are ornamental gardens, a children’s garden and playground, Great Lawn and Lake, an off-leash dog park, splash fountains and a restaurant space.
The Crystal Bridge Tropical Conservatory recently underwent a major renovation. Its interior spaces are now reimagined with a new layout, Cloud Portal sculpture on the main pathway and a two-level waterfall feature.
2. Visit the Wheeler Ferris Wheel
The Wheeler Ferris Wheel is one of the most unique attractions in Oklahoma City. It’s a historic amusement ride from the Santa Monica Pier that has been refurbished and moved to Oklahoma City.
Located at the Wheeler District, this relic of the past is a one-of-a-kind attraction with breathtaking views of downtown Oklahoma City. At night, the Wheeler District is illuminated by over 100,000 LED lights and offers rides 100 feet above the ground.
The Wheeler District anchors a new and up-and-coming part of Oklahoma City. Its reclaimed land will offer residents access to a recreational bike trail system that connects with the downtown area.
3. Visit the Art Hall
The Art Hall is a nontraditional gallery space featuring the works of local artists. It’s located in Oklahoma City’s revitalized Uptown district and it aims to support local artists while increasing public interaction with fine art.
The main attraction here is the Tiny Little Fables: The Enchanted exhibit, which showcases a trifecta of Oklahoma City artists: Nonney Oddlokken, Nicole Moan and Aztrid Moan. The exhibit’s most impressive feature is its clever use of space and lighting. The best part is that it’s free to visit. You can even bring your furry friend!
4. Visit the Paseo Arts Festival
The Paseo Arts Festival is one of Oklahoma City’s most popular street festivals and brings 60,000 people to the historic Paseo Arts District each Memorial Day weekend. As the largest annual fundraiser for the Paseo Arts Association, it helps fund art programs and events throughout the district year-round.
Visitors will be able to enjoy almost 100 nationally acclaimed visual artists who blanket the district with original works of art. They will be displaying and selling paintings, ceramics, woodworking, photography, glass, sculpture and jewelry.
More than 50 musicians and live performers will be on two stages over the course of the weekend, and a food court with 20 vendors is sure to please everyone. Drinks tents will feature Budweiser and Paseo Draw Beer on Tap, as well as lemonade drinks, water and soft drinks.
5. Visit Science Museum Oklahoma
The Science Museum Oklahoma is one of the top attractions to visit in the city. It is a Smithsonian Affiliate that specializes in hands-on learning about science.
The museum offers a number of interactive exhibits and live shows that are sure to keep children entertained for hours on end. You can also check out a planetarium to learn more about space and the stars.
During your visit, you can explore CurioCity, an incredibly fun and educational 20,000-square-foot interactive village that teaches a variety of different scientific concepts. You can also go to the Tinkering Garage, which allows kids to build and create their own little science projects.
6. Attend a Concert
Whether you’re looking for a fun and unique experience or simply want to catch a live show, there are plenty of opportunities in Oklahoma to do just that. From music festivals to concerts, you’ll find a variety of things to do that will make your trip memorable.
If you’re a music fan, then the Woody Guthrie Center is one of the top things to do in Oklahoma. The museum is home to memorabilia, artwork, notebooks and handwritten lyrics from the legendary folk musician.
7. Visit the Oklahoma City National Memorial
On a normal spring morning in 1995, a bombing exploded outside the Murrah Federal Building, reducing the building to rubble and killing 168 people. Today, the memorial is a place of remembrance and tribute to those affected by that day.
There are two main parts to the site – an open-air memorial and the museum. The outdoor memorial features a reflecting pool and a field of 168 empty chairs that are engraved with names of those killed.
